| Review: There are many good things about the Machinist that are well worth praising. Very atmospheric character of the film is supported very strongly by excellent performances all around. Christian Bale takes it to the extreme in his version of his character. It's hard to see him get his body mass near starvation, which increases the tension in the work further. The story leaves a bit to be desired. While creating excellent mood, it tends to creep along too much.One thing that stands out is how reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock Play this video . Almost everything about the movie screams Hitchcock, from editing certain scenes (driving sequences are very much in the style of Psycho), Bernard Herrmann-esque Score (full of bass clarinet), lack of fully-exploring/revealing some Cree pier level of the film (which runs from the fridge?), and wash grainy image. If you want to see what the movie would look like if Hitchcock were alive today to shoot, this is the next thing, maybe you could come across. And if it was part of the intention Brad Anderson directed this, I congratulate implementation because it is uncanny.Overall, I'd sequences ; la with this film, but casual moviegoers. This is very much a film phile experience for those who appreciate character development and cinematography as much as plot points and story that can be ; defined and monitored from one application to another. In this way it is close to the film, such as Magnolia, or the like, wherein the indication is emitted. If you are looking for a pop typical Hollywood thriller, this is not what you are looking for. |
